THE FALSETTO SINGS G&S … AGAIN!

Having sold out at last year’s International G&S Festival in Buxton, Martin Milnes’ first specialist spin-off show The Falsetto Sings Gilbert & Sullivan will return to the Festival for two performances on Monday August 8th and Friday August 19th at 3pm in the Pavilion Arts Centre. Martin returned to The Pheasantry in Chelsea with The Falsetto in February 2011, after which he played the roles of ‘Crystal’ and ‘Audrey II’ in Little Shop of Horrors in the acclaimed production of the Menken-Ashman musical at The White Bear, Kennington.

THE FALSETTO AT THE PHEASANTRY

The PheasantryMartin ‘The Falsetto’ Milnes returns to London in his brand new solo show on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 19th at THE PHEASANTRY on Kings Road in Chelsea.

The celebrated and historic venue, which over the years has seen such varied artistes as Margot Fonteyn, Dylan Thomas, Eric Clapton and Queen pass through its doors, is set to become London’s leading new cabaret venue.

Martin’s new programme, which includes banteriffic comedy to complement the music of composers including Coward, Porter, Kander and Ebb, Lloyd Webber, Novello, and Tom Lehrer, will include well known favourites as well as some undiscovered gems, encompassing the best of classic and modern musical theatre. He will be accompanied by Dom Carter at the piano.

Maritn’s first “specialist” show, The Falsetto Sings Gilbert & Sullivan will be premiered on Monday August 9th at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton. He will sing soprano arias alongside tenor and patter numbers from the Savoy Operas. The show begins at 2.30pm in The Octagon.

An excerpt of his falsetto “Poor Wand’ring One” appears in the new Sky Arts TV series Gilbert & Sullivan: A Motley Pair which will be broadcast in September.

In July 2010 (in his tenor voice!) Martin led the singing at the 70th Anniversary celebrations on Battle of Britain Memorial Day in Folkestone, in the presence of HRH Prince Michael of Kent, honouring the veteran fighter pilots who fought in the conflict.

Martin “The Falsetto” Milnes will next be performing for The Noel Coward Society in London and The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton.

On Monday 3rd May he will be appearing at the Canal Cafe Theatre, Little Venice, as part of a special presentation for The Noel Coward Society. Martin will sing “What Is Love?” and “Zigeuner” from Bitter Sweet in his falsetto range, and “Nina” from Sigh No More in his tenor voice. The evening is dedicated to introducing younger audiences to the works of the man known as “The Master”.

Martin’s first full length “specialist” Falsetto production – The Falsetto Sings Gilbert and Sullivan – will be part of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton. The show takes place in the Octagon at 2.30pm on Monday 9th August. Martin will sing soprano arias from G&S shows in falsetto, as well as tenor and patter songs showcasing his “regular” range.

The G&S Festival will also be celebrating the launch of a new TV series entitled Gilbert and Sullivan : A Motley Pair prior to its broadcast on Sky Arts later this year. Written and presented by Simon Butteriss, and directed by Tony Britten for Capriol Films, the series examines the history of G&S and the enduring strength that carries it into the 21st Century. Martin is featured singing a falsetto excerpt of “Poor Wand’ring One from The Pirates of Penzance and also appears in numerous other scenes throughout the series.

The Falsetto & The Fingers at Canal Cafe
